I was diagnosed with mandibular dystonia 3 years ago. It started off being task–specific to the instrument (trumpet) but as I practiced more to “solve” the problem, the symptoms started happening away from the instrument. When you play, do your teeth clench shut (i.e. from your jaw muscles?)?

Jaw issues (TMJ) were a significant factor in my embouchure dystonia. Acupuncture (for the symptoms) and retraining + solving emotional issues (for the cause) solved that part of the puzzle for me.
