I offer support, advice, and rehabilitation coaching to fellow musicians currently suffering symptoms of Musician’s Focal Dystonia.
Session Overview
- Initial Session: Typically lasts 2 hours and includes an in-depth assessment.
- Follow-Up Sessions: Generally 1 hour each, though longer sessions may be arranged based on individual needs.
Focus Areas
My coaching is centered on addressing the three key facets of MFD, and finding efficiency in these areas in order to facilitate recovery:
- Playing Mechanics: Your biomechanical (physical) setup.
- Mental Direction: Improving the quality and efficiency of signals you send to your body.
- Emotions: Removing negative neuro-associations to your instrument and replacing these with positive neuro-associations.
In a first coaching session, we begin with some simple questions/answers. I will also ask to observe you playing, so that I can see the symptoms you are currently experiencing. This first session with questions about yourself, your playing history, your symptoms, current situation etc., allows me to build up an understanding of the possible causes of your MFD, which in turn allows me to give advice and choose exercises tailored for your recovery. Please note that in most cases, I do not teach you how to play – you already know how to do that. What I do is to help you to identify and remove what I call ‘the handbrake’ – the processes that create the physical symptoms that prevent you from playing freely.
